The "El Monumental" - since 2022 Estadio Mâs Monumental through a sponsorship contract, has been rebuilt and renovated several times over the decades. Today it has a capacity of 84,567 spectators, making it the largest stadium in South America ahead of the "Monumental" in Lima and the "Maracana" in Rio de Janeiro. One of the greatest successes of Argentine football and at the same time the venue in El Monumental: On June 25, 1978, the Argentine national team won the first world championship title in Argentina's history 3-1 after extra time against the Netherlands. Located in the affluent area of Buenos Aires, the Monumental has seen fantastic teams from River Plate such as the legendary attacking formation "La Maquina" (the machine), which dominated South American football in parts of the 1940s.
