Since the 1860s, there is said to have been a parade ground where soccer was played on the current site of the Neckar Stadium. The Neckar Stadium served as a model for the Berlin Olympic Stadium and had the first grandstand in Germany with a cantilevered, column-free roof made of reinforced concrete. Initially, it was not just a soccer stadium, but in 1939, for example, a boxing match was held by Max Schmeling in front of a record crowd of over 60,000 spectators, which still stands today for boxing events in Germany. The initial capacity was 40,000 spectators. At its peak, the stadium could hold up to almost 100,000 spectators and, after the last renovation, 60,058 spectators.
