In 1970, it was the Brazilians around Pelé, and in 1986 the Argentinians around Diego Maradona who hoisted the World Cup trophy into the night sky of Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca. A total of 1,917,550 spectators watched the 19 games (100,924 on average per game); no other World Cup stadium had more spectators and no other had a higher average. The Estadio Azteca was the venue for other great historical moments such as the "Game of the Century" between Italy and Germany in 1970, and also witnessed Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" in the World Cup quarter-final against England in 1986. Over the decades, six different Mexican clubs have played their home games at the Estadio Azteca.
